Workshops

ICSIH 6 are delighted to announce two pre-conference workshops

Pre-Conference Workshop 1

Biometric Evidence: An interactive workshop on biometric testing

Date & Time: June 17th 9.30am12pm

Location: TBC

Join us for an interactive workshop on biometric testing and learn how to design and implement research using objective biomarkers of health, including blood pressure reactivity and hemodynamic profiling. This is a unique opportunity to experience standardised stress-testing protocols for experimental research, learn how cardiovascular responses to stress are assessed within laboratory-based studies, and gain insights into state-of-the art equipment that assesses a myriad of cardiovascular functions.

Drawing on current work from the SIMTIC project which funded by the European Research Council, the workshop will include a demonstration on how the SIMTIC project to-date, has integrated aspects of Social Identity Theory with cardiovascular health outcomes. The workshop will conclude with an open discussion on examining cardiovascular outcomes within social psychological research.

This workshop will be led Dr Grace McMahon.

Pre-Conference Workshop 2

Exploring Attitudes through Network Mapping: A Workshop on Applying Bipartite Network Analysis to detect Identity Based Groups

Date & Time: June 17th 13:30pm – 3.30pm

Location: TBC

Join us in this interactive workshop about SurveyGraph, a new social network method used to detect and analyse attitude-based communities. During this workshop we will demonstrate a technique for representing survey (and similar) information as a bipartite network. Individuals are connected based on shared attitudes, and attitudes become interconnected when shared by individuals. This arrangement effectively groups individuals and attitudes into clusters simultaneously.

Through a structured workshop approach, we will introduce the fundamentals of network analysis. Attendees will learn how to analyse and present survey data as a bipartite network using the SurveyGraph package (recently developed with support from an ERC Proof of Concept Grant)in R/Python. We will illustrate how examination of this network structure enables the identification of group dynamics and polarization tendencies. In the end of the workshop, we will lead a discussion with participants about how they can apply this method in their own research, while considering both strengths and weaknesses of this method.

This workshop will be led by Dr Ana Jovancevic, Dr Caoimhe O’Reilly & Dr Samuel L Unicomb.
